The Australasian Counter-Strike: Global Offensive community was struck by some deeply saddening news on the 30th of November, as Kurt “Deegan” Philpots unfortunately lost his life in a traffic accident – he was 20 years old.

Deegan was a well known member of the local Counter-Strike: Global Offensive community and had competed in both amateur and intermediate levels of the game for quite some time; most notably with the Deep Space Crocodiles, a team familiar to all of those involved with the local scene in Australasia.

Following the news of his passing, both friends of Deegan and members of the community have rushed to his family's side to share not only their thoughts and deepest sympathies, but to create a campaign to raise money to support Deegan’s family. They’ll be running a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament, an event Deegan would fully be behind.

With the support of MC Esports, the local community will be hosting the “Kurt ‘Deegan’ Philpots Memorial Cup” on December 14th, with all proceeds going towards Deegan’s family and also towards helping improve the road where Deegan tragically lost his life.

There is also a gofundme page set up in which you can donate to.

Posted on the gofundme page is a memoriam stating, “regardless of time or place, he was never afraid to speak his mind on anything, which frequently resulted in contagious laughter from all those listening. Despite his jovial demeanour, Kurt was never one to stand by silently while others were made to struggle, and so now it is our turn to fight his fight.”

“To those of us lucky enough to have met and/or played alongside you, it was an honour and we will cherish those memories forever. Thank you Kurt.”
