With ESL AUNZ Championships and Dreamhack Malmo coming to a close, we are pleased to present our second instalment of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive power rankings for Australasia. This instalment has seen a shake up all over the board, with surprising results from ORDER at the ESL AUNZ Championships, and Grayhound Gaming writing history at Dreamhack Malmo.

We are also pleased to announce the arrival of Komodo, who will be assisting us with the bottom half of our rankings to ensure we hit the nail on the head.

Our Counter-Strike panelists are:

Without further ado, here is our latest edition of Counter-Strike power rankings:

1.) Grayhound Gaming

“Grayhound recently put on a historical performance at Dreamhack Malmo, not only forming one of the greatest comebacks in CS:GO history, but also being the first Oceanic team to ever knock out the number one in the world from groups. It is an immaculate first international showing with the recent addition of Joshua “INS” Potter to the roster. Grayhound are currently uncontested for this position.”

- Geordie “Mac” McAleer

Key Achievements:

2.) ORDER

“After a very slow start last weekend against Avant Gaming on Dust II, ORDER managed to pull it all back together and knock out not only Avant (2-1), but also The Chiefs Esports Club (2-0), which no one saw coming. It was great to see what the new lineup had to offer on LAN, after a shaky start with some online qualifiers. There is still some kinks to be worked out, but it was a good sign of what is to come. I can’t wait to see if they are up to the task of holding this position in the coming weeks of EPL and eXTREMESLAND, which is just around the corner.”

Key Achievements:

3.) Avant Gaming

“After a short deliberation, it was clear that from previous performances against the other team teams in Australia, coupled with their Asian Minor performances, that it is time for Avant Gaming to climb the ladder. It started off as a ‘honeymoon period’ and many inside the scene still giving former teams the saving grace of their consistency over the past twelve months. However, it is fair to say now that Avant Gaming have secured third place. Although they ultimately lost to ORDER at ESL AUNZ Champs, it was a series that is still noteworthy; with ORDER going on to win the tournament. With EPL and eXTREMESLAND just around the corner, be sure to keep your eyes on this team.”

- Rob “Manic” Munday

Key Achievements:

4.) The Chiefs Esports Club

“After a disappointing end to their ESL AUNZ Championship LAN, it was time to reconsider The Chiefs position at second place. As of late, we have seen some shakey performances come out of the roster, which a lot of people would have described as menacing with the addition of Ofnu and Zewsy, two spale players inside this region. The Chiefs grace period of being the LAN Dragon of Australia has now worn off, with disappointing performances in the Malmo qualifier, to their recent inconsistent performance on LAN. Their position falling to fourth is a combination of uncertainty surrounding their results, from what we expect, and Avant Gaming holding strong for the past few months. Once again, these next two weeks will be a great gauge to see where we place them in the Oceanic landscape.”

- Rob “Manic” Munday

Key Achievements:

5.) Genuine Gaming

“We spoke about it in the last edition of our power rankings; these boys work on another level, which gives them that extra edge over many other teams inside out region. Genuine Gaming isn’t a team of ‘stars’ by any means, but a group of extremely well equipped players firing on all cylinders. Although they have some inconsistencies when competing against lower tier teams, they have recently shown up when it matters, Dreamhack Malmo being a good example. If this team finds their consistency and continues to battle it out against the best in upcoming events, we may see them enter the top four.”

- Mitch “Conky” Concanen

Key Achievements:

6.) Ground Zero Gaming

“Alongside Genuine Gaming, this team has been close to success a few times since bringing in Zeph; only falling to Avant Gaming in a best of three by three rounds for eXTREMESLAND, losing in overtime during the recent ESL AUNZ Pro League, and also being knocked out in the LetsPlay.Live Pro Semi Finals by Genuine Gaming. Whilst I hate the word at time, ‘potential’ is an understatement for this roster and they certainly have all the tools to cause a few upsets in the coming months.”

- Mitch “Conky” Concanen

Key Achievements:

  • x5 Win Streak: Sep 25-Oct 2 (MDL)
  • 22-20 vs Paradox Gaming (MDL)
  • 3rd/4th: LPL Pro S3

7.) Paradox Gaming

“After the grace period of change when Paradox lost Valiance to ORDER and Llamas was brought in, it’s clear he has settled in quite nicely. As time has passed, we have seen the coordination of this team, under the leadership of Kingfisher, escalate. Paradox are really starting to come together to be a powerful team. Although now with the departure of Kingfisher, it’s likely that we may see a decrease in performance in the coming weeks.”

- Dion “Komodo” Pirotta

Key Achievements:

8.) MadLikeWizards

“After Chelleos and Ju1ces joined the roster, MadLikeWizards (mLw) have been starting to really come together as a sharp unit. I’m very interested to see if the wizards will be able to continue with good results; so far this roster has really impressed me.”

- Dion “Komodo” Pirotta

Key Achievements:

9.) Monkey See, Monkey Do

“Putting forward such good matches in the LetsPlay.Live Pro League and securing themselves a spot in the Grand Final against Genuine Gaming, really solidifies why this team is currently sitting at ninth. I am super keen to see what they will show, and if they stick together after the mentioned final, how far they will be able to go as a team.”

- Dion “Komodo” Pirotta

Key Achievements:

10.) Recursive

“It is great to see that the players on this roster are back into our scene and coming out with good matches as well. Playing in both the MDL and ESL Pro League, I am hoping to see very promising results from this team when they face off against the big names towards the top of our power rankings.”

- Dion “Komodo” Pirotta

Key Achievements:

Notes from Komodo: Although places 8th-10th are extremely right, close contenders at the moment would be SYF Gaming, PC419 and Bizarre Gaming. These teams are all close in results and in promise, so it really does stem into what these teams will be able to prove in the next coming weeks.

Congratulations to all of those who have made it on our power rankings and well done to those who have progressed up the ranks. Let us know what you think about our rankings and if we got it right or not!
