Announced this past Tuesday (August 11th), Ground Zero revealed changes to their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster following the departure of Joel “PEARSS” Kurta and Benson “Liki” Niuila.

Joel “PEARSS” Kurta was a promising addition to the roster back in February, but recently he announced on his personal channels that he would be retiring from competitive play and has since removed himself from social media.

Ground Zero has since revealed that former Chiefs Esports player, Daryl “Mayker” May, has signed to the organisation alongside young hopeful, James “Laes” Richards, to round out the five man squad.

In a statement provided to us by Mayker, he went on to state that he is “super pumped to be playing with a bunch of new, yet familiar, faces within the scene after a long tenure with my former teammates at The Chiefs.”

“I’m hoping that as a team we’re able to get up to the top four level to contest for spots in qualifiers, as we’ve decided to try something new with me taking regions over the team.”

Both Mayker and Laes now find themselves teaming up with some long-standing players within the Global Offensive community alongside the likes of veteran player Callum “BURNRUOk” Henderson. With some very shaky results towards the end of last season, the team will be looking to get back on tracking coming into Season 34 of the MDL and all future qualifiers.

Ground Zero kicked off the new season with an unfortunate loss to Paradox Gaming, but with Mayker now jumping into the role of In-Game Leader, it will be interesting to see the team’s progress once they’ve had some more time together in the server.
