Counter Strike Power Rankings, December 11th

Alex Cascio
December 11, 2019

Following an exciting amount of competition for many of our teams out of the Top 4, we are back with our latest edition of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive power rankings to solidify the top ten teams in the region as we begin the wind down to 2019.

Our Counter-Strike: Global Offensive panellists are:

1.) Renegades (-)

“Goodbye hounds, hello Renegades. After the good news of signing with Renegades the team unfortunately had a super hard draw in ESL Pro League. Having to take on both Astralis and Mousesports (who incidentally won the EPL last night by knocking out Astralis) was a very rough situation to kick-off their signing. They did however manage to take a map off of Mousesports which is more than can be said for Fnatic in the grand final. A very nice finish for the boys in 2019 and I hope they learnt a thing or two to carry forward into 2020.”

- Geordie “Mac” McAleer

Key Achievements:

  • 2-1 vs Sharks (EPL Finals)
  • 2-0 vs ORDER (EPL S10 GF)
  • 2-0 vs Chiefs (EPL S10)
  • 2-1 vs Alpha Red (OMEN Finals)

Active Roster: dexter, sico, INS, malta and DickStacy

2.) ORDER (-)

“Order haven't been able to play anything for the last fortnight and are about to take on the world over at the ESEA Mountain Dew League Finals! There is high expectations for the team overseas so here's hoping they close out the year on a good note.”

- Geordie “Mac” McAleer

Key Achievements:

  • 2-0 vs Chiefs (EPL S10)
  • 2-0 vs Avant (EPL S10)
  • 3-2 vs Chiefs (MDL S32 GF)
  • 2-0 vs Genuine (MDL S32)

Active Roster: emagine, aliStair, hatz, USTILO and Valiance

3.) The Chiefs Esports Club (-)

“Chiefs haven't played any official games since the last edition of the power rankings, having wrapped up their year with a 5-6th place in ESL Pro League APAC. It's been an up-and-down year for the Chiefs, with no overseas events during recent months and less success in tournaments than we're accustomed to seeing from this lineup. However, they've had some solid games and wins against the other teams in the top 4 and have still placed highly in most things we've seen them play in - hopefully 2020 will bring more victories their way.”

- Tim "brainstorm" Dunne

Key Achievements:

  • 2-1 vs Avant (EPL S10)
  • 2-0 vs Genuine (MDL S32)
  • 2-0 vs ORDER (MDL S32)
  • 2-0 vs PC419 (MDL S32)

Active Roster: tucks, zewsyy, ofnu, Texta and BL1TZ

4.) Avant Gaming (-)

“Similarly to Chiefs, Avant also haven't played any official games since we last wrote about them. They closed out 2019 with a 7-8th place in ESL Pro League, and a 4th place in the eXTREMESLAND qualifier finals, winning only 2 maps in their bo3's against the rest of the top 4 across both events. While Avant have had their problems against the rest of the top teams in the region recently, 2019 has still been a good year for them overall. Notably, we saw them attend the Starladder Asia Minor in July and they've had good placings in ESL AUNZ Champs throughout the year. This roster has potential, and I'm hoping to see them perform more consistently at the level we've seen glimpses of in the next year.”

- Tim "brainstorm" Dunne

Key Achievements:

  • 1-2 vs Chiefs (Zowie Qualifier)
  • 2-0 vs Ground Zero (EPL S10)
  • 2-0 vs Catman (EPL S10)
  • 1-2 vs ORDER (ESL AUNZ)

Active Roster: J1rah, hazr, apoc, soju and strerl1ng

5.) team (-)

“Although the boys currently have no organisation, they have still been performing well and were undefeated until facing Ground Zero in the WESG APAC finals a few nights ago. As a further good sign it appears that Tom 'apocdud' Henry's health is improving and they continue to play well in preparation for a big 2020. As mentioned time after time, they've done well to sit at our Rank #5, however they still sit firmly outside that Top 4 despite a few wins here and there. An international tournament is secured for early next year, providing them with a chance to make a big statement, so I hope the guys find an org to back them and continue to perform as a 5.”

- Mitch “Conky” Concanen

Key Achievements:

  • 2-1 vs MC (WESG APAC)
  • 2-1 vs SYF (WESG APAC)
  • 2-0 vs Spinach Farmers (Geforce Cup)
  • 2-0 vs SYF (MDL S32)

Active Roster: Jinxx, stat, apocdud, Skullhunter & Mayker

6.) Ground Zero Gaming (-)

“Ground Zero are another team I've loved following lately. But with their newer player acquisitions, and after losing to Madlikewizards, they unfortunately missed out on an opportunity in the GeForce cup, however they’ve had solid runs in both the IEM Open Qualifier & WESG Qualifier. I am really looking forward to seeing how these guys go in 2020 as they continue to improve as a 5. They do currently still sit at Rank #6 on our list, however I feel like this team can definitely do some damage inside that Top 5 after the break into the new year.”

- Mitch “Conky” Concanen

Key Achievements:

  • 3-1 vs ex-Genuine (WESG APAC)
  • 2-1 vs MC (WESG APAC)
  • 2-0 vs PC419 (IEM Katowice Open Qual)
  • 2-0 vs Bizarra (Geforce Cup)

Active Roster: bURNRUOk, zeph, void, Llamas & Noobster

7.)  Airborne Esports Club (+1)

“Winning the ESEA Open Grand Finals and securing themselves a slot in ESEA MDL Season 33, then going on to beat PC419 to qualify for the ESL IEM Katowice OCE Closed Qualifier, Airborne are starting to rise up the ranks. And whilst they still have room to grow, I feel that we will be seeing a lot more from them in the new year. Onwards and upwards boys!”

- Dion “Komodo” Pirotta

Key Achievements:

  • 2-1 vs PC419 (IEM Katowice Open Qual)
  • 3-1 vs Genuine (LPL)
  • 2-1 vs Paradox (LPL)

Active Roster: pz, smooth_crim, JD, laes and swede

8.) Mad Like Wizards (new)

“With events coming to a close for the year, we haven't seen The Wizards play since October, but when the NVIDIA Geforce cup came around they achieved second place (Note: smooth_criminal22 stood in for jhd in maps 2 & 3) against ex-Genuine. I still believe that MadLikeWizards have a ways to go to be consistent in the Power Rankings, and I do hope they are less up-and-down in the new year.”

- Dion “Komodo” Pirotta

Key Achievements:

  • 2-1 vs Ground Zero (GeForce Cup)
  • 2-0 vs VITAL (GeForce Cup)
  • 1-0 vs Bizzard (MDL S32)

Active Roster: chelleos, ju1ces, ADK, jhd and asap

9.) SYF Gaming (-1)

“Continued and consistent would be one way to describe SYF as of late, with competitive results against many middle of the pack teams. They still haven’t quite kicked into gear to challenge our top 5.”

- Matthew “mattyB” Bowerman

Key Achievements:

  • 2-0 vs unfortunate circumstances (IEM Katowice Open Qual)
  • 19-16 vs Genuine (MDL S32)
  • 16-10 vs Jade (MDL S32)

Active Roster: urbz, ekul, bedonka, ino and Teal

10.) MC Esports (-)

“In a similar boat to the boys on SYF, MC are continuing to show decent results against middle of the pack teams, including a couple of tight best-of-3s verses the now former Genuine Gaming lineup. It seems they’ve finally found a 5 that sticks as they begin to look towards future competitions.”

- Matthew “mattyB” Bowerman

Key Achievements:

  • 2-0 vs PC419 (Geforce Cup)
  • 16-12 vs ZOWE (MDL)
  • 19-16 vs Jade (MDL)

Active Roster: Moey, Noisia, Oliff, tot and pnd
